Congratulations to the Georges Valley Girls Soccer Team

We'd like to extend congratulations to the Georges Valley girls' soccer team - and Coaches Townsend and Banda - for their 1-0 victory over Orono in Saturday's Class C State Championship game at Hampden. It was a fitting conclusion to an outstanding season for the Buc girls, and a well-deserved honor for one of the best soccer coaching staffs in the state.

Farewell to a true Tiger

Transition and change are the very nature of high school sports. The student/athletes shuffle through, making their mark and moving on; the coaches and administrators come and go. In most communities the connecting thread for the high school teams is the fan base and, in most instances, a fan or two.

Floyd Nelsen was that fan at Rockland.

Victory over Oak Hill thrusts Boys Soccer into playoff picture

It's still a little early, but if recent history is any indication the Rockland boys soccer team may be headed toward a playoff berth. After stumbling out of the gate, the Tiger boys have played very well of late. Until Friday, Sept. 25th, they had little to show for it. However, their efforts produced results on Friday - and vaulted them into the playoff picture with six games remaining on the season.

Rockland Golfers shock Camden

Rockland's Joey Nelsen shot a 43 and teammate Parker Spear fired a 47 at Rockland Golf Club on Sept. 24th to help lead the Tiger golf team to an improbable victory over Camden Hills. In a season where the Tiger golfers were rebuilding the victory over Camden Hills - considered by many a conference power on the links - is a significant step forward. Nelsen's 43 was the best round of the day for both teams, and Spear's effort helped Rockland beat the Windjammers in the all-important stroke total to take the match 5 1/2 to 3 1/2.

RDHS Field Hockey in walk off win

Madison Sturks' goal, with just 3:29 remaining in overtime, lifted the RDHS field hockey team to a hard-fought, 4-3 victory over Oak Hill on September 22nd. It was the second win of the season for the young Tigers, who overcame a 1-0 first half deficit in the process. Leah Ellis scored twice for Rockland, tallying her first of the season early in the second half to tie the score at 1-1. Allison Ward put Rockland ahead moments later, finding the back of the cage off a mad scramble in front of the Raider net.

All students interested in particitpating in fall sports at RDHS can pick up Emergency Contact Forms and Sports Done Right Compacts in the high school office this summer. These forms are required for all student/athletes participating in athletics at RDHS. They should be filled out completely and turned into your coach when you report to the first practice. You may also return the forms to Athletics & Activities Director Jim Leonard by dropping them off at his office (located at the rear of the high school weight room). All preseason practices begin on Monday, August 17th.
